BRUNSWICK | As it crossed Georgia Friday, Tropical Storm Hermine toppled a lot of trees and broke a lot of branches. Although that sort of damage was simply annoying to most people, it will prove to be costly to pecan farmers as it destroyed an estimated 30 percent of this year’s crop.
When the storm tore into the middle of South Georgia and turned northeast, it blew through some of the most productive area for pecans including some farms that go back three or more generations.
