ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA. | Fort Frederica National Monument has a lot to celebrate this year, but this Saturday it will concentrate on the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.
Spanish and English re-enactors will recreate some of the sights and sounds — some rather loud ones — from the fortified English town’s founding 280 years ago and the small but pivotal battle between the British garrison and Spanish invaders from St. Augustine. The actual Park Service anniversary is on Thursday.
