ST. SIMONS ISLAND | A man who was at the helm of a shrimp boat that hit the island’s pier late Saturday was arrested and remains jailed on boating under the influence and interference with government property charges, police say.
The High Tide, a shrimp boat out of Darien, Ga., struck the western leg of the T-shaped pier about 6 p.m. Saturday, said Cpl. Kate Hargrove of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
“It is a local vessel,’’ but it has Port Royal, S.C., listed on its stern as the boat’s hailing port, Hargrove said.
Hargrove said she boarded the
