With tropical storm Hermine expected to make landfall in the Florida panhandle as a hurricane, school systems around Southeast Georgia have canceled Friday classes and some county courts and other offices will be closed.
Also, Georgia governor Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency for 56 counties that took effect at noon Thursday and that will run through midnight Saturday. The included counties are in parts of south, central and coastal Georgia.
The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency said Wednesday that the storm’s greatest effect on Georgia could be heavy rainfall.
