Georgia and Florida troopers and other law enforcement officers gather just before Labor Day each year at the Georgia or Florida welcome and information centers on Interstate 95. Capt. William L. Hires announced Wednesday the event had been canceled because of the anticipated weather.
The National Hurricane Center has said the tropical depression could intensify into Tropical Storm Hermine and turn northeast across the Florida panhandle Thursday or Friday and into Georgia through Camden and Glynn counties.
This year’s noon event on the Georgia side of the line would have been the 25th anniversary of Hands Across the Border.
